Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

I was happy to drive by the house on Friday and see that the windows we were missing were finally in and the siding guys were there finishing the shake.  All of the columns are on the front porch now, too!

We will have stone bases on the columns that will hopefully be getting started this week and all of the exterior that is left on the front will be stone.

Some friends of ours recently redid their bathroom and bought new mirrors as part of their remodel.  They told us they found some really great ones at Garden Ridge and we knew we wanted to check there for ours, too. We want to have framed mirrors for all of the bathrooms instead of just regular cut mirrors so this afternoon we stopped in.

When Robby and I lived in Florida we went to Garden Ridge all the time!  When we first moved there and didn't know anyone, our Saturday nights were spent going out to dinner and walking the aisles of Garden Ridge.  Good times!  Although we were really just going to look today, we ended up getting lucky and finding mirrors for ALL of the bathrooms.  There were 6 aisles of mirrors in every style, shape and size. We figured that we were there and they had what we needed, so why wait and make another trip.  It was a successful day and we were happy to have that checked off the list.  The kids were so cute helping us (Hudson measuring and the girls pushing the carts).

While we were there the kids also had fun checking out some of the other goodies Garden Ridge had to  offer and playing hide-n-seek while Robby and I made our final decisions.

I know I've said this before, but I'm loving that the building of this house is a family affair!

Rocking and Rolling

Not much looks different on the exterior because we are still waiting to get one of the last windows in so the shake can be completed, but the inside has been rocking and rolling over the past week.

The plumbing, electrical and HVAC are all almost done.  I met with the electrician late last week to go over certain light placements and since then I have been scouring the internet looking for deals on lights and trying to narrow down what I wanted for certain rooms.

Over the weekend the girls and I checked out Ballard Backroom, which is one of my favorite furniture stores. It is the Ballard Design outlet store and there are some really great deals to be found there.  A few years ago we got Harper's bed and some office furniture there and I just love the look and style of everything they carry.

I was able to score 4 lantern style lights at rock-bottom pricing and was so happy about them.  You should have seen us stalking this lady who was carrying the 4th one around and then put it back and decided against getting it. Worked out great for us because I got the 4th that I needed.

Robby went to work at the house and do some more clearing across the creek on Sunday and on his way home he stopped back in Ballard and got 2 other lights I had noticed while I was there.  One will be used for the office and we aren't sure about the other one yet, but it was just way too good of a deal to pass up.

While he was doing that I was getting started on a project I hope to have completed by the end of the weekend.  Along with my great-grandmother's round table that we brought back from North Carolina over Christmas we also got some dining chairs.  The table and chairs will be used in our kitchen and I'm giving the chairs a face lift.  Here is a sneak peak of what I was working on and I promise to share before and after pictures as soon as I'm done!

Today we met with the cabinet guy to go over our plans and pick out our door fronts, cabinet colors, etc.  Making those decisions made everything seem much more real.  We actually surprised ourselves with how quickly we made all of the decisions for not only the kitchen abut all of the bathrooms, too...even down to the hardware that we will be using.

When I got back to Gigi and Papa's I was pleasant surprised to see that our copper farmhouse sink and microwave had been delivered today.   Between that and having all sorts of fun looking at paint colors, I'm starting to really see how it is all going to come together!

Kitchen Cabinet Planning

Today Robby and I met with the cabinet guy to discuss the layout of our kitchen and get things started on the kitchen plans.  For months I've been pinning different ideas and trying to decide what I really wanted our kitchen to look like.  I'm not 100% yet, but I think we are going to go with an antique white cabinet on the perimeter and then a grayish island.

I'd also love to have wooden, butcher block style, countertop for the island so depending on the budget we might be able to do that, too.  We both really like farm sinks so we are pricing out those right now.

Today the cabinet guy definitely knew what he was doing and gave us some pointers and things to think about when planning our kitchen.  He also brought some cabinet color samples.  Who knew there were so many antique white choices?!?!?

We're trying to think about not only the cabinets, but also the wall and trim colors we want to use for the majority of the interior, so there are definitely a lot of decisions to think about.  Next week we should get the initial drawings back for the kitchen layout and from there we will meet at the showroom to pick out all of the specifics.
